“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be the blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”    • J.R.R. Tolkien

In this poem Tolkien is referring to Aragorn, a soon to be king, that is, if Aragron will accept the challenges and dangers that lie before him, but he was reluctant. There was no guarantee that he would become what the poem predicted. It took faith to trust that the poem was true. Aragorn had to make a decision - he had choose to become something greater. He had to choose, to embrace, and to engage his destiny, or the prophecy would be in vane.

The same thing is true of every one of us. It is also true of you. Becoming a believer in Jesus Christ not only changes the course of your life, but it will change your ultimate destiny as well. It takes real courage to walk with God, as well as patience; but, what you'll become will absolutely outshine anything else you can choose in this life.

As you follow Christ with others of like faith, you will become more fulfilled than you could ever have been on your own. Living life with God’s people transforms us into the person God dreamed for us to be, and what we are becoming is marvelous. You may be crownless today, as Tolkien wrote, but one day the crownless shall be king. Believe this. You have a destiny, and your future is a good one . . . if you will receive it. Know this; from before the beginning of time itself your loving Heavenly Father has ordained good works for you to walk in. At Emmanuel we will help you find His path for your life. Our Lord has your best interest at heart, and through him you will discover your best future. Come worship with us this Sunday.
