“When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.” • G.K. Chesterton
Many things have been said and written about faith. Much has been said to discourage faith and to promote knowledge over faith. The fact is, many of the most positive aspects of faith are overlooked, like, for instance, the fact that all people utilize faith on a number of levels every day of their lives. Faith is, in fact, one of the necessary components of life. What is faith? Faith is trust, pure and simple. It is trust in information provided by a trustworthy source. Recently, the U.S. put another rover on Mars. No one was there to see it land, but we believe it did because of who says it did, and because of the data we are "supposedly" receiving from it. Why do we believe this story? Because it is reasonable to do so.
Faith is never a leap into the dark - ever. Faith is always based on reliable information and the testimony of trustworthy voices. This is true with faith in Christ as well. There are solid reasons why we believe. At Emmanuel we talk a lot about this. We know why we believe in Jesus Christ, and we rejoice in a faith that is strong and vibrant. There are real reasons, intellectual reasons, and solid reasons why we believe. If you are curious, ask us why. We would be glad to tell you why.
